If you lose one or multiple permanent teeth, you’re also more likely to experience potentially serious oral health problems like bone loss and gum recession. Dental implants can reduce the risk of these and other issues and transform your smile. At Tysons Laser Center Dentistry, experienced cosmetic and general dentist Kris Popli, DDS, and the team boast years of experience placing and restoring dental implants. To make an appointment at the practice in Tysons Corner, Virginia, call the office or schedule online today.
Dental implants are synthetic posts made of titanium that replace your natural tooth roots. They’re inserted into your jaw during an outpatient procedure and integrate with your natural bone structure over time.
Once the fusion process is complete, Dr. Popli attaches a dental restoration to each implant. Depending on your needs, that might mean crowns, a fixed bridge, or snap-on dentures.
Before recommending dental implants, Dr. Popli conducts an oral exam, reviews your dental health history, and takes oral X-rays. If the exam or X-rays reveal gum disease or cavities, they’ll need to be treated before moving forward.
Let Dr. Popli and the team know if you have an underlying health problem like high blood pressure or diabetes. Though these conditions won’t prevent you from getting dental implants, they may increase the risk of complications, so it’s important they’re well cared for.
Dental implants provide many benefits, including:
Dental implants also improve your oral health. By filling the gaps in your smile with implants, you can prevent your remaining, healthy teeth from shifting.
At Tysons Laser Center Dentistry, getting dental implants takes at least three appointments over several months.
If Dr. Popli determines you qualify for implants, he administers a local anesthetic and places a series of titanium posts beneath your gums. Following the placement procedure, he prescribes pain medication and antibiotics and provides care instructions.
Three or four months later, when the implants finish integrating with your natural bone structure, you return to the office. Dr. Popli attaches a metal abutment to each implant and takes impressions of your mouth with the iTero® intraoral scanner. When your scans are complete, he sends them to a dental laboratory.
Technicians at the dental laboratory use your impressions to design and create a custom restoration or restorations.
When the dental laboratory completes your crowns, fixed bridge, or snap-on dentures, you visit the office for the final time. Dr. Popli lines up the restorations with your implants and bonds them in place. Then, he polishes your teeth and provides instructions on dental implant maintenance.
